If you love Chai Tea Latte’s sweet, creamy and spicy taste as much as me and would like to try it at home with healthy ingredients then this recipe is just for you! Believe me, you can do it better than Starbucks.
- Black Tea (1-2 tea bags/pots or 3/2 tbsp tea leaf)
- Cardamom kernel (3-4 pieces)
- Shredded Nutmeg (1-2 tsp)
- Clove (4-5 pieces)
- Black Pepper (1/4 tsp)
- Cinnamon (1 stick or 1 tsp)
- Ginger (1/2 tbsp)
- Honey (3 tbsp)
- Water (800ml)
Nutmeg gives you the intense spicy taste in chai tea latte. You can easily find it on some herbal shop. Shredding the nutmeg is very easy, just like shredding carrots with its crusts. You can also find the cardamom kernel on herbalist very easily. I personally did not sort out the kernels, just add it as a whole.
How to prepare?
Mix all the ingredients -except for the honey- into the water and boil it 8-10 minutes. Some of you might wander why don’t we mix the ingredients in the milk but actually in Chai Tea Latte there is 3:1 ratio of water mix and milk. Once it boils, turn off the heat and let it brew 15 minutes with the lid closed. After that 15 minutes, add the honey before the tea mix gets cold and stir well.
The Chai Tea part is ready! Now it’s time to add the milk. Heat the milk but do not boil it because the taste might get spoiled and don’t forget the 3:1 tea mix&milk ratio. Of course, you can add more or less milk or you can add some more honey if you like a sweeter taste. One more tip before you enjoy your delicious homemade Chai Tea Latte; you can whisk the milk and add milk foam on the top of the Chai Tea Latte, that is my personal favorite. Bon Appetite! ☕
