Hawaii: Somewhere Over the Rainbow…

I had a dream… I wanted to be greeted with the leis and with the melodies of ukulele in Hawaii as soon as I get out the plain. And my dream came through…

It was in the middle of winter… We decided to make a good start of new year in Oahu Island, Hawaii… It was a quick decision, so we packed really fast and catch the last sunset of the year in Honolulu. The airport is just 20 minutes away from the city center. We were getting ahead from the airport with the fresh flowers around our neck and the amazing smell coming from them. Inside my head, there was only one song: “Somewhere over the rainbow…” We were so eager to throw ourselves to the ocean!

When you are in Hawaii, every day is like a celebration day… You feel gratitude and happiness. Flowers are everywhere: On your head, on your neck, in your food and beverages… So, everything and every minute is so colorful and romantic in this island.

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii. It’s surrounded by palm trees, high buildings and stores of popular brands… And of course, famous with amazing Waikiki Beach where you can find many amazing hotels. If you go a little inside the city, you will also encounter less crowded beaches and local restaurants.

Instead of glancing at a few islands in Hawaii, we wanted to fully experience Oahu Islands.

How many 💙 do you see?

When to go…

You can go to Hawaii anytime you want to… Because the weather is nice all the time. When we went there in December, it was 28 Celsius degrees and we could even swim. Although the possibility of rain is remarkably high during this period of year, it didn’t rain even once while we were there. Welcoming the new year barefoot on the beaches, under the stars was also a great experience. So, you should definetely think about going there for the New Year’s Eve. You will enjoy the fireworks (Although there are firework shows once a week all year round).

How to go…

When it comes to Hawaii, the main problem is the budget and of course the transportation… So, let’s talk about some facts. First of all, the direct flights are very expensive. And in most of the cases, there is not a direct flight. In this case, you should go to Los Angeles or San Francisco first and then transfer to Hawaii. If you want to make it a little cheaper, you will have to transfer more. So, you will either pay more or get more tired. It’s up to you… We were already in San Francisco for business. So, for us it was an easier decision. There are more than five flights from San Francisco to Honolulu every day. So, if you arrange your trip ahead, I am sure that you can have a good deal.

Where to stay…

If you are planning to stay in Oahu Island, Kailua will be the best area to stay. It’s full of hotels, restaurants and malls. You can find everything you need. There are smaller and cheaper hotels as well as big and luxury ones. As far as you stay in Kailua, you can pick your hotel anywhere you want to. Because it is a small district and wherever you stay in this street, it will be just nice and central.

What to do…

Hawaii has a lot to offer. You can throw yourself to a beach, lay on the sands and have a peaceful time. It’s like a meditation. But if you are looking for a little adventure, then you can choose to hike, to surf or to dive with the dolphins in the ocean.

There are different kinds of beaches around the island. If you are in the east, the sea is turquoise and looks just amazing. If you are in the east, the sea looks a little darker but this time you will have a great underwater experience. If you are in the north, then you have to be careful with the waves, but the northern beaches are just perfect for those who like surfing. By the way, most of the beaches are public. You just drive there and throw your towels on the sands.

What to eat…

You will have such amazing fruits in Hawaii, especially the acai berries, which are very popular and called “super food” nowadays. You will also have such delicious sea food. But what is better that you get to eat all your meals accompanied with the live music. Wherever you go, there will be either somebody with his guitar or ukulele…
